Today is the day! My first traditionally published book, Blood Over Bright Haven, is now available in stores!
The hardcover features red sprayed edges, gold and red foil on the jacket, an endpaper map and an interior illustration. The list price for this edition is $29.99, but as of this writing, it’s discounted to $20.29 on Amazon and Target, $24.15 at Walmart, and $27.89 on Bookshop.org.
The audiobook is narrated by the wonderful Moira Quirk, probably best known for her reading of The Locked Tomb books. The list price for the audio is $25, but as of this writing, it’s discounted to $15.75 (or 1 credit) on Audible and $16.95 on Google Play.
The first woman ever admitted to a prestigious order of mages unravels a secret conspiracy that could change the practice of magic forever, in this standalone dark fantasy.
For twenty years, Sciona has devoted every waking moment to the study of magic, fueled by a mad desire to achieve the impossible: to be the first woman ever admitted to the High Magistry at the University of Magics and Industry.
When Sciona finally passes the qualifying exam and becomes a highmage, she finds her challenges have just begun. Her new colleagues are determined to make her feel unwelcome—and, instead of a qualified lab assistant, they give her a janitor.
What neither Sciona nor her peers realize is that her taciturn assistant was not always a janitor. Ten years ago, he was a nomadic hunter who lost his family on their perilous journey from the wild plains to the city. But now he sees the opportunity to understand the forces that decimated his tribe, drove him from his homeland, and keep the privileged in power.
At first, mage and outsider have a fractious relationship. But working together, they uncover an ancient secret that could change the course of magic forever—if it doesn’t get them killed first.
Early Reviews
“M.L Wang continues to deliver the goods. Blood Over Bright Haven is a storytelling masterclass. Deeper themes run through this energetic tale of dark academia and feats of imagination abound.”—Mark Lawrence, author of The Book that Wouldn’t Burn
“A scathing, but truthful look at the world we live in. Branded as fantasy, but real enough to suggest it is so much more. A stunningly powerful story.”—Terry Brooks, author of The Sword of Shannara
“A fantastic page-turner—clever, emotional, and thematically rich. I was completely engaged the whole way through. Highly recommended!”—James Islington, author of The Will of the Many
“With one of the most intricate and fascinating magic systems I have ever read, Blood Over Bright Haven masterfully draws you into the brutal web of power, corruption, and complicity at the heart of its society. This book is a merciless reckoning that leaves you reeling long after the last page is turned.”— Sara Hashem, author of TheJasad Heir
“Blood Over Bright Haven is, well, bloody brilliant. (Pun intended.) I wish I could craft a character half so well as M.L. Wang, that I could set a scene with half so rich an atmosphere. Blood Over Bright Haven is the kind of book that knocks you down, kicks you repeatedly, and then makes you thank it for doing so. I can’t recommend it highly enough.”—John Bierce, author of Mage Errant
Thank you all so much for picking up Bright Haven or just checking out the blog. Wishing you all a spooky season and a Happy Halloween!

One week into THE SWORD OF KAIGEN and WHERE LOYALTIES LIE special edition Kickstarter, I wanted to give a quick update on how we’re doing with our funding goals:
As I discussed in this post, Wraithmarked Creative is producing brand new signed hardcover editions of The Sword of Kaigen and Rob J. Hayes’ Where Loyalties Lie (both winners of Mark Lawrence’s Self-Published Fantasy Blog-Off).
Thanks to those of you who backed, just one week into the Kickstarter, we’ve already hit all but one of our stretch goals outlined above! I was especially excited to reach the $150,000 goal, which ensures that Wraithmarked will be able to expand this set include more SPFBO winners in the future. The one remaining stretch goal is for illustrated page edges, something I’d love to see with Tom Jilesen’s beautiful artwork (seen below on the cover and endsheet artwork for this edition of Kaigen).
