December Charity Blitz

December 2, 2017

For the month of December, I will be donating 100% of my royalties to the Against Malaria Foundation!

As anyone who has read the series is probably aware, the world-building of Theonite is heavily based on West African culture (specifically that of the Mande of Mali, Guinea, Senegal, Gambia, Sierra Leone and several neighboring countries). From the magic system, to the languages, to the themes of colonialism, my work owes a lot to West African history and culture. This month, I want to give something back, in the form of donations to a charity that helps save lives throughout Africa (including some of the aforementioned countries).

My goal is to reach $100 dollars in donations for the Against Malaria Foundation (AMF), a charity that works to distribute insecticide-treated mosquito nets in areas affected by malaria. Since 2011, it has been recommended as a top charity by GiveWell, a non-profit organization dedicated to researching the most cost-effective interventions to save lives in the developing world. Reasons GiveWell cites to support AMF include that it is:

  • Effective (nets placed in homes significantly lower the risk of malaria)
  • Cost-effective (nets are low in cost relative to their impact)
  • Transparent (all their financial information is available on their website)
  • For more information, see Givewell’s write-up on AMF or visit the AMF website.

For reasons having to do with Amazon content rules and printing costs, my royalties aren’t super consistent between all my books. So, here’s the breakdown of how much will be donated for each purchase:

    Book I: Planet Adyn ebook ($0.99) = $0.35 donation
Book II: Orbit ebook ($2.99) = $2.00 donation
    Book I: Planet Adyn paperback ($11.20) = $2.30 donation
Book II: Orbit paperback ($18.75) = $3.76 donation

So, if you have yet to purchase any of these books or know someone who might like them as a holiday gift, now is the time to get them! If not, I strongly encourage you to make a direct donation here.

    Thank you and happy December!

    Theonite: Orbit on Amazon

After barely escaping Earth with their lives, Joan and Daniel scramble to piece together the mystery of Killer 31 while dodging police, security guards, annoying family members, and dark hooded figures.

Daniel always intended to take on the Firebird mantle and fight his father’s enemies, but he didn’t expect to have to do it at the age of thirteen under a hail of spears and bullets.

Joan was hoping to find a world where she wouldn’t be isolated because of her powers, but adjusting to existence on the bottom of Duna’s racial hierarchy turns out to be more painful than any of the alienation she experienced on Earth.
